Can You Train To Say Goodbye?
It’s strange to say that the hardest part of our job is often the one that has the most forseeable outcome. Yet the process of euthanasia, from the decision to the procedure, can tie all of us in knots. Quite honestly the choice can sometimes be a blessing; a way to end suffering that we cannot control. It may be evident that this is the best way to help a failing pet. Nonetheless, we never get used to assisting an owner in the the decision to let their pet go. Without fail we hurt for you and for your pet. We mourn a battle we feel we’ve lost and often remember the times we’ve been on the other side of the table with our own pets. There is no true preparation for euthanasia, but I thought this was an interesting article describing how vet schools ready their students for this emotional, yet important part of the profession.
